Higher National Diploma in Quantity surveying is a new diploma awarding course added to the HNDE (Higher National Diploma in Engineering) which holds 27 years of pride history. Higher National Diploma in Quantity surveying is the first and the only diploma awarding course under Ministry of higher Education which is established & conducted by Sri Lanka institute of Advanced technological Education (SLIATE).
Quantity Surveying is about providing clients of the construction industry with financial, contractual and technical advice ensuring they get value for money from the buildings they construct. The modern quantity surveyor is a construction professional who may be involved at all stages of the design and construction process, from providing business strategy advice, working with architects and design team consultants, through to overseeing the onsite construction phase. The quantity surveyor has a sound understanding of construction technology, project cost planning and control and contractual issues.
There are excellent opportunities in private practice with contractors, public sector, property developers as well as accountants, insurance and management consultancy. In many developed countries such as United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK), Australia, Canada & Middle East(specially Qatar and Dubai) have a huge demand, requirement & a value in the field of Quantity surveying.
In Sri Lanka , there is an increasing demand has been arose in the field of Quantity surveying . As a result of this HNDE has introduced an Diploma course in the field of Quantity surveying in order to fulfill this demand. The first programme was done in year 2012 as the intake of students for the field of HND in Quantity surveying at HNDE Mattakkuliya.HND in Quantity surveying is a 2 1/2 year course, which has two academic years along with six months in plant training.
The well qualified lecturers, laboratories and workshops with modern facilities give the opportunity for the students, to complete the course in time. After completing Higher National Diploma in Quantity Surveying , the students can complete their degrees from well recognized universities. As Quantity Surveying has become a leading employment in the world the students will be able to occupy their carrier at high salary ranges in both local and international job market.
